We’re both editors. We spend a lot of time decrying the downfall of the English language or trying to stump each other with rare words or obscure grammar points. We also consult throughout the workday on tricky sentences.

It’s a lot of fun. 🙂

We work in the same job and have three other times, too. Mostly retail in the past, now e-commerce.

We’re planning on opening a bookstore together in the future.

He’s science minded (anthropology, geology) and I’m art minded (film, photography). He stimulates my scientific side and vice versa.

Um, er what about “Not Marry Well?”

Me - Education bureaucrat and consultant
Her - Educator

I write the laws, she tries to argue about how to interpret them. She complains about specific kids, I have options to try but don’t get listened to. I had 15 years experience and a Master’s degree and was writing curriculum before she got her first teaching job.

I don’t talk about work at home. I sometimes wish I was with someone who had no idea what I do.

Seems like what works best for most couples is:
**He:** left brain, hard-line, results oriented profession.
**She:** right brain, touchy-feely, people-oriented vocation.

The exceptions are few enough they seem to pretty much prove the rule.

I don’t really give a shit about work (though I’m good at what I do and am reasonably successful), so I don’t know how much this really applies:

Me: Project Scheduler

Her: Consultant at a Character Education nonprofit (teaching is her field)

I’m a singer/guitarist/songwriter; I think of myself as that more than whatever job I’m working, though at least I have sense enough not to quit my dayjob.

People here in DC are waaaaaay too into their dayjobs; it’s a huge buzzkill to be around people who take themselves so seriously. It’s actually really annoying, because all that seriousness is pretty much for naught; being all serious and uptight doesn’t make one competent, it just makes one an asshole.

My wife and I love each other and are committed to each other and our kids; the other stuff is just window dressing.

Or the other way round!

Me: Manager and salesman.
Her: Accountant

My job is about people and hers is very hard-line!

ETA: it works well for us because she gets weekends off, and I get Sunday off plus a day in the week. So we get time together and our own personal time too. Plus we get to have lunch together most days which is nice.

We’re both engineers. We solve problems very well and usually dispassionately.

Still crazy in love after 10 years.
