Prohibition

Please refer to the post in question. Please explain what you are talking about. As it stands, your OP makes no goddamn sense.

To Czarcasm, I didn’t bring up vaccinations, others did. I merely responded. Won’t use the word again (excluding my next response) if that makes you happy. To Polemic: Your analysis was thoughtful, logical and thorough. Saying they’re not the same was all I needed to be convinced.

What the hell are you pitting, then?

If the messenger is an idiot, perhaps even of the drooling variety, then one can safely ignore the messenger’s message.

Very good. I wish my SO was as accommodating.

A little bit of whine is good for the belly.

Consider this: alcohol or meat eating brings more overall benefits than a ban would create. That’s why your argument is stupid.

Forcing other people to vaccinate for the good of society creates more overall benefits than allowing a small minority to belief fake science so they can kill people through insufficient herd immunity. That’s why its wrong to be anti-vax, and government should force everyone to vaccinate.

If the 88,000 doesn’t include drunk drivers and all the rest, then it sounds like you’re only talking about heavy drinkers doing direct harm to themselves. I certainly have sympathy for someone caught up in such self-destructive habits, but it is a problem largely of their own making.

Contrast that with something totally unrelated, like, say, mandatory vaccinations. Vaccinations are something that parents are responsible for getting for their children. And if the parents fail in that, the consequences will be felt by the children, and the other children that they go on to infect.

Will someone please link to the subject of the OP’s ire, since he clearly can’t be arsed? I’m going to assume that is because if he did, he would suffer the indignity of being called out on his bullshit. Deliberate obfuscation is the hallmark of a weak argument.

I haven’t seen such a blatant disregard for critical thinking in quite a while. The idea that ‘‘X is good for society, therefore people should be forced to do X’’ must directly translate to ‘‘Y is good for society, therefore people should be forced to do Y’’ is really a very facile assumption. Context always matters. What exactly the public stands to gain or individuals stand to lose in any situation must always be a factor.

But the OP loves to make broad, sweeping generalization strawman arguments as a matter of rule so I doubt it’s changing anytime soon.

It was my understanding that pie was to be served.

“Everything not forbidden is compulsory” - a usually fictional doomcry.

I’m not going to wade through all of Vicsage’s bullshit. Can someone enlighten me as to what garbage he’s talking about? If he’s an anti-vaxxer I can just put him on ignore and save some time.

It’s like a jungle, sometimes I think I wonder how I keep from getting smallpox. No, I don’t.

I think the posts from a previous thread referred to in the OP are from a thread in the Pit that ended with this idiotic overreaction that supposedly put everyone in their place.

That seems to be a trend of stupidity.

Well, that’s fucking stupid.

As far as I can tell, Viscage is a veritable black hole of useless posts. He seems to suck all meaning and nuance out of any conversation.

Did you honestly believe anyone here would think your OP was really about prohibition and not a desparate and highly transparent “gotcha” regarding vaccines?

Vicsage, you really suck the life out of the thread, like a hypo needle.

What you’re really saying is:

These liberal fools think my reasoning is flawed. Very well. I will take my rebellion to the extremes. I will mock their liberal agenda. I will martyr myself on their principles. I will hemorrhage their lily-livered adages and axioms and expose them for the fools they really are. They won’t laugh at me when they see how much society, through me, suffers for their godless mewlings and panty-waist conjecture. Did liberals die. Die die die die die.

Ike, either pie is now forbidden, or we are indeed all owed pie.

Know, they didn’t.
