I thought you bubbleheads called topside navy surface craft “targets”? Or is that only for SSNs and SSGNs?
Soundmen (as they use to call them) never classify a contact as a target.
That’s the captains or the OOD’s job.
Conn/sonar we have a contact bearing 090 making 115 turns we classify this contact as a cargo (and then we give it a number). Most warships give them selves away by using active sonar and we would just stay out of their range. We could hear them up to 65 miles away
FBM and boomers submarines didn’t attract much attention we cruise 200’ at 4 kts and stay out of the shipping lanes.
