The ones I always hated, even though I was one for a while, was the old AOL board and chat system where your identity as a participant and your identity as a “Host” were different with the latter usually being hidden and/or secret. Something in that was what drove me to places like this.
OK – their total collapse had something to do with it as well. But still …
