“Only for formal debates”?? Since when? By that standard 2/3 of GD should be closed.

In my defense, I initially did not know that was what had happened; I thought that I had somehow botched which forum I had posted to since the forum was switched in the minute or two I spent editing the post to add a P.S.
And finally, since @What_Exit apparently simply didn’t like the subject at all and used his mod privileges to squelch it, I appeal to the rest of the moderator staff to pass judgement.

I moved this thread to ATMB, Site ID is not for complaints about moderation.
As to since when on GD, you’ve been oblivious for over 3 years to the changes that were made apparently.

If a thread is still within the edit period, you can edit your post and while doing so change the forum.
I had changed the forum, indicated as much and he chose to move it back.

His OP was a mess and I am strongly against reopening it. It could possibly be redone in IMHO or perhaps he could frame a debate for GD, but it better be framed well, respectfully and carefully.

FWIW, I’ve noticed a lot of hostility in your moderation lately. If you dialed it back a bit, it’d make things a bit easier.
As for moving the thread, it wasn’t at all obvious to me that it needed to be moved, and you didn’t announce that you were moving it. @Lumpy didn’t appear to be asking specifically about board rules, but rather about social rules. “is it the modern rule” is how he begins the question. I thought the move was in error.
I used to advise GD mods to moderate with their finger outside the trigger guard. I think that advice might be applicable for you at this point.

The staff note provided was the announcement. The OP was a mess and didn’t belong in GD. But, on further reading probably wasn’t an ATMB thread either. There was no reason to leave that mess open though.
As to a lot of hostility, maybe? I’m not sure. I wasn’t hostile until he moved the thread back though. I almost suspended him for that move.
Can you point to another example of my hostility in moderation? I haven’t noticed.

I did not know that was what had happened, since I was in the middle of the edit window, and did not see your notification until I exited the editor. As I said, I initially thought I had somehow botched the forum selection.

But GD needs a well framed debate or we’ll close it or move it.
Your title is also confusing due to the word rules. Thus why I moved it to ATMB.

It is the rules, we’ve been enforcing them for a little over 3 years and it seems to be working out pretty well. GD was a mess before those rules IMHO at least.
I think **Jonathan\_Chance** did a great job revising the rules. It seems like the least we could do is enforce them. The one addendum is I finally got “witnessing” tossed out of GD and now it goes into a more appropriate forum like MPSIMS or IMHO.
Glurge/Bloggy stuff generally moves to MPSIMS which fits it much better.
The OP in question here might have worked in IMHO but was still pretty messy with an unclear title.

I think a thread like that _could_ work in IMHO, with a clearer OP. I don’t really see it as a debate, but people likely have opinions on pronoun usage. It might need pretty tight moderation to avoid becoming another trans-bashing thread.

I didn’t think it was a formally proposed debate, but it was fine: the definition of “transgender” is at least somewhat under debate. And people were talking about what that definition is, or should be. It could have stayed open.
As for cites for hostility, I may be reading brusqueness on your part as hostility; when I go looking for what’s formed that impression, I’m just finding a lot of brusqueness. Unless others are getting that impression also, I’ll take that back with an apology.

Any thread on gender identity, irrespective of forum, seems to need tight moderation. It helps us a lot if the parameters of the discussion are carefully crafted and put in a forum where we have rules that are more loosely enforced.
I do think IMHO is a better fit for this type of discussion.

I am brusque, that is true. Also frank and I try to be a lot less sarcastic on the board then I am IRL. Sarcasm is almost the default mode for me a NYC/NJ guy. I can see how that might look hostile.
