When something offends Christians, it’s always amusing to find comments online along the lines of “Well, they’d never dare to offend Muslims like this, or they’d get themselves murdered!”.
I’m not quite sure what the underlying point is. Modern Christianity’s tolerance for dissent and the relatively small number of homicidal extremists in the religion should be a matter of pride. But it seems more resentful, why can’t _we_ have homicidal extremists to put a stop to this nonsense? Perhaps a wistful nostalgia for the more civilized and respectful era of the Spanish Inquisition.

Looks like they are doing well and expanding their operations. I do have some concerns about overexpansion, brands sometimes fumble there, but it does not appear as though the name has cost them much business. I’d say they made a good choice, and their quickly growing customer base agrees and affirms that opinion.
If nothing else, you know that if you go there, you won’t have to put up with uptight religious people and their judgmental natures as fellow clientele, worth going there from that part of the atmosphere alone.

“This” being an ice cream shop named “Sweet Jesus”? Nothing is necessary to make that “okay”; frankly, I find it a whimsical prayer of thanks.
No, my point is that everything will offend someone, and we have to use restraint in deciding what crosses the line. Something offending a subset of members of one religion is NOT a reason for everyone else to do without it, especially not with ice cream.

If they had just used the name “Sweet Jesus” some people would have been upset, but most would probably just avoid it. But they took the concept and ran with it, creating ads that aren’t just promoting their name but misuse Christian symbols and even incorporate Satanic symbols. They _wanted_ the controversy; they pursued it to gain publicity.
I don’t want any government to try to restrain them, and I would ask they would stop the offensive use of imagery.
Be honest. Other groups’ symbols wouldn’t be used this way.

Americans don’t consider “Hail Mary” to be disrespectful, because most of the Americans who get offended at this sort of thing worship football, and so they consider it an appropriately-sacred context.

Here’s He’Brew’s Hanukkah beer. Note the candle symbol:

Their other beers are all pretty tongue-in-cheek – Jewbelalation, for example. Their motto is “The Chosen Beer”.
Jews don’t really have too many symbols because one of the first commandments is not to worship graven images. Leaving aside the many crosses, I don’t really know how the Catholic church gets away with those Christ carvings, but that’s a subject for another thread.
So, be honest, other religions are sent up basically the same way.

I’m kinda surprised that no one has mentioned Angel Soft toilet paper.
If they are going to get upset about ice cream with a theological connection, then it seems that wiping your ass with the divine should be right out.
