I was watching the Christmas episode of _Bones_ last night, and for some reason one of the “nerdy” male characters appeared shirtless.
He was hot, why the hell was he wearing baggy jumpers in all the other eps?

No, seriously, women and men work differently, we know what we like, we know what YOU like, and we dress the way we want to get the desired effect. We’ll still find you attractive in jeans and a big, baggy jumper, you wouldn’t find us ass attractive if we wore that. Which is why you get to wear jeans and a baggy jumper on dates, and I wear jeans and a tight top which shows off my boobs. Everybody wins.

I stand corrected! I’ve seen the occaisional windsurfer on Lake Ontario, but I’ve never seen traditional board-only surfing.

I can think of quite a few women who are attractive in jeans and a baggy sweater. 🙂

There are very few who do it (I don’t – canoe and kayak surfing for me only). At the best of times in the summer the waters on the north shore of Superior can be brutally cold (often only a few degrees above freezing once you are outside of the shallows), and the folks in the TBay area surfed until December this year, so the choice of apparel is 6.5 neoprene (not goretex drysuit oddly enough), but then there is nothing quite so sexy as a woman dressed in rubber. (There, I bet you thought I’d not be able to get back on the thread topic again!)

Another aspect of this difference in how we see the sexes is in comedy. A man in his underwear = funny. A woman in her underwear = erotic.

In cartoons, if a grown man is suddenly stripped down to his comically polka-dotted boxers, this is comedy. I don’t think you could say the same about a female cartoon character suddenly stripped down to her panties and bra.

Um yeah think of big ol white grannie panties and a maximum support white bra. Ohhh sexy!

“Women like to look at near-naked women.”
For this woman… not so much. I would rather see a near naked man than a near naked woman.
I think the point of why men dress provocatively and men don’t is we are both dressing to impress men. I remember on a Survivor episode that the host was telling some guy to cover up because “No one wants to see that”. He meant he didnt’ want to see the guy because I sure did.

Just this weekend I was at a party that involved a lot of scantily clad women of all different types of bodies ( science fiction con kind of thing). I could have stood for a few more guys with thier shirts off at least and a few more of the women putting at least some underwear on.

OK, let’s try my matrix again. This time, I’ll add a couple of cells to elaborate on my original point, which I was not clear enough about in the beginning.

- Men DO like to look at near-naked women.

- Women DO like to look at near-naked women. (Maybe you don’t, but as I understand a lot do–“Where’d she get that bra?”, “I should open this magazine and learn The Amazing Sex Secrets That Will Keep Him Wanting More, because she looks like she knows” etc. I may be mistaken.)

- Straight men/gay women DON’T like to look at near-naked men.

- Straight women/gay men DO like to look at near-naked men.

So, 50% of the population likes to see near-naked men, as opposed to the almost 100% of the population who likes to see near-naked women. Simple statistics if you ask me, but I don’t have any cites to back this up, so if a lot of women come on and say they dislike seeing near-naked women, well, I’m not married to my viewpoint.

As the coiner of this neologism I am _so_ glad it has stuck in peoples’ minds and is getting the airplay it deserves.

Yep, and at my company’s holiday party on Saturday night I was one of ‘em: the skirt was formal and floor-length and black, and the top was formal and long-sleeved and black, but quite “plunge-y” (as I called it). I did a reality check with a couple of friends the night before the event to make sure it didn’t inspire thoughts of “what the hell made her think she looks good in _that_?”, but there was definite cleavage goin’ on. I don’t have much else going for me in the body department, so I figured I should work with what I have. 😃

Asked and answered. 😉
