# PS3 very slow on wifi

I recently started to try to use the new Hulu+ app on my PlayStation 3, and it came to my attention that its download speed on my wireless network is unacceptably slow. The download speeds always seemed slow to me, but it only became obvious how slow it was when I tried to stream video.
My iPhone, netbook, and Wii all have acceptable speeds on my wireless network. It’s just the PS3 I have issues with.
I’ve found some suggestions via the Internet, but I don’t know a lot of networks and computers and stuff, and I have no idea what the problem might be, except that my PS3 might simply be broken. Aside from that, does anyone know what might be causing this?
I have an AT&T DSL connection and a Linksys router, model number WRT160N.

DSL is not really all that fast. Your Linksys router is actually overkill for your connection, the router is many times faster then the pipe coming into your house. Watching a highdef video on the PS3 may require the bandwidth you do not have. Whereas the Wii only streams 480i which is way less bandwidth.
One thing I would look at is to make sure the router is set to G only mode and not B+G+N sometimes if you have a slower devices connected it will slow everything down. So I would just set it to G and not “Auto” or whatever the setting is called.
Does the PS3 show you how strong the signal is? Is there a way to plug a cord into it to see if it changes speed?
I have the exact router you have actually as a spare.

Changing it to “wireless-G only” actually helped quite a bit. Thanks
The PS3 shows the signal strength at 100%. I don’t have an ethernet cord long enough to try a wired connection without taking a lot of trouble.

The PS3 is lying signals are not measure in percentages, they are just trying to dumb it down for the end user but im sure it says 100% its got a good connection. Is it hooked up to a highdef tv? if it is/isn’t make sure the tv type is also set correctly in the settings.
You don’t know alot about computers like you said but it is possible to allot more “bandwidth” to the ps3 then the computer which may only be used to go to webpages in which case you dont need high bandwidth.
Also bare in mind when you get off of your computer and it is inactive, that is when a lot of programs want to update themselves and that might also slow it down, ya know?

If the network is unsecured, your low speed is because I’m piggybacking your connection.

It’s hooked up to an HDTV and the settings are right. I know because I just replaced my CRT TV and had to change them.
My network is secured.
