Psycho-Why the Long Drawn Out shower murder?

The film’s Wikipedia page talks about this (in the Controversy section) and there’s even a poster urging people to see it from the beginning. I’ve always heard that coming and going at any point in a film was very common, and sitting through features multiple times without being asked to leave is something I’ve experienced myself (I didn’t go see Star Wars over 100 times on first run by paying separately on different days each and every time. I think my record was 5 times in one day. I just lifted my feet up when they came in to clean and no one ever said a word to me. You sure can’t do that nowadays).

Oh, phew! That’s a relief! :o

Including the German one? :dubious:

Even the one with the rapping dog?

I’ll bet one reason he did was to spend a long time shooting a scene with Janet Leigh standing nearly naked in a shower.

It wasn’t her for most of the shots, there was a body double for any shot that didn’t show Leigh’s face.

I’ll bet one reason he did it was to spend a long time shooting a scene with Janet Leigh and Marli Renfro standing nearly naked in a shower.

That film is actually a cut above the conventional slasher flick, for reasons that have nothing to do with Paris Hilton:

The film’s heroine gets a baseball bat and goes to town on one of the villains, clubs him 12 or 13 times, and he does not get back up.

Especially the German one. Actually, this film would make a great MST3K film. I like Sybille Schmitz, but yikes. This was supposed to be a propaganda film about how the British were so greedy they let the ship sink, but when it was finished, even the Nazi propaganda ministry knew it was too awful to release, and it was never released in Nazi Germany. I think it’s first release was in West Germany in the 1950s, although I have it in the back of my head that it may have been shown in a few occupied countries during the war, just not in Germany itself.

In what sense is the shower scene long and drawn out? It’s 2 minutes and 48 seconds long (from the point she steps into the shower to the point that the camera leaves the shower) in a movie that’s 109 minutes long. It’s from 0:44 to 3:32 in the following clip. It doesn’t strike me as being long and drawn out at all.

CUT! No, no, ladies, you have to really get those soap suds working. Lather. Rub the soap INTO your chest. Okay? Action.

CUT! Let the water hit you in the face more sensually…
