Just learned from my SIL that the cause of death for my late wife was asphyxiation due to choking on a tuna sandwich. Still don’t know how to process this new information on an event that turned my life upside down. ---

I was at work. She had been taking meds for some ailments that are common for a seventy-something woman, but they were being pretty well managed. My first wife died in early 2020, and I was there when she had the seizures that put her on her deathbed (in the hospital). Turns out that Joan’s death was avoidable. ---

My gf told me her low beam headlight on the driver’s side was burned out, so I stopped at the auto-parts place and got a replacement. Easy five minute job, right? Nope, I had to remove the windshield washer fluid tank, then bend both my arms in a zigzag position while holding a screwdriver in my mouth. I would buy a car that was ugly af, but designed only with the idea of easy servicing in mind. ---

Sounds like a cover up! “Caregiver” was just a convenient (if otherwise fictitious) label we used to describe her position in Joan’s life. “Majordomo” would have sounded too pretentious. Legally, she had no duty of care that would have obligated her to, say, monitor Joan’s ability to successfully eat a sandwich. ---

I thought a goal of carmakers was to make it difficult or impossible for independent mechanics (not to mention owners) to make repairs/replace parts without specialized equipment and testing gear. ---

I needed to return a product I bought online so walked in the rain to the nearest mailbox in the run to return a package. My package, which fit in my own mailbox, was just a bit too big to fit in the slot. 📮😳 ---

We had/have problems with our water. My gf was using the water in the barn and when she shut it off, she thought she could still hear water running. Meanwhile, I was washing my breakfast dishes and the water stopped. We shut off power to our pump (well water) and poked around the barn looking for what happened. I’ve always been unhappy about not having a way to shut off the water line to the barn. She mentioned that maybe it was under the salt block platform. Yep, there is a 4X6 elevated platform where the 50 pound salt block sits in the aisle-way of the barn, near the water spigot. The top is a thick piece of repurposed wood held down with screws. The screws are all rusty, weird torx type screws that I could not unscrew. I got a crowbar and spent an hour removing _dozens_ of screws by hammering the crowbar in and breaking each screw. As I was breaking through one of the last screws it hit me…why would someone drive dozens of screws to cover access to the shut-off? I got the huge piece of wood off and found a taped off power line and a shut off hose bib. When my gf saw that she remembered that 25 years ago there was an automatic waterer there that she did not like, so she had it removed. She’d totally forgotten about it. So, I was caked with dirt and sweat, and had no water for a shower. ---

Update, if you put an umbrella in your shower to dry off you it’s a good idea to remove it from the shower before you take a shower. ---

She lent that one to a friend who wanted to see the horses but didn’t want her hair to get wet. Plot twist: There was some sort of spider nest in the old umbrella.
