# Pulling a David Carradine in Thailand

And another one bites the dust. A 76-year-old ex-Nasa offical who is also the author of (self-published, I’m told) books such as _Suicide Inc_, described as a “romantic and erotic thriller,” was found dead upcountry “with a rope tied around his genitals and waist and another rope tied around his neck, hanging from a knob of his bedroom door.” Quantities of crystal meth and speed pills along with “several sex toys” were scattered about. Tak is in the Lower North, on the Burmese border. The word _tak_ literally means “dried in the sun,” and I’ve spent enough time in that province to know it lives up to its name. If he was dead for three days, especially with the heat the way it’s been this year, he must have smelled pretty ripe.
Well, at least the old guy went out with a bang, so to speak.

Everything I’ve read on autoerotic asphyxiation states that you should never do it alone, but should have someone there to rescue you if things go wrong.
However, I cannot think of an activity I would want less of an audience while performing.

Given that this was Thailand, it would not surprise me in the least if he didn’t have one or more “companions” who panicked when things went awry and simply disappeared. I’d be interested to know if they found his wallet, cash, etc. along with the other items.

Everything I’ve read about it says you should never do it, period. There’s really no way to do “breath play” safely, even with an experienced partner.
