Last week’s _Prairie Home Companion_ show featured the **Wailin’ Jennys,** a Canadian girl group. In these parts, there’s a band called **The Vulgar Boatmen,** from the very old Volga Boatman. Has anybody mentioned the **Dead Kennedys** yet? **The Notting Hillbillies** , Mark Knopfler’s retro band. **The Hellecasters.** Studio guitar wizards. **Hayseed Dixie** is a bluegrass band that plays **AC/DC** covers. ---

Ever since **FilmGeek** mentioned the band in a previous thread, I’ve thought of [Onward Crispin Glover](http://www.lawrence.com/bands/onward_crispin_glover/) whenever this topic comes up. My brother was once in a group called **6S** (success) and my dad is part of an ensemble known as the **Standard Thyme Band** (playing the “standards” with a bit of spice). Ernest Evans took the stage name **Chubby Checker** as a play on **Fats Domino** , whose actual first name is Antoine, as the recent news from New Orleans reminded/informed us. I once saw an episode of _Family Feud_ which featured a Caucasian woman who had a hip-hop act and billed herself as **Plain White Rapper**. Fake (as far as I know) name which I’ve found amusing since hearing it when I was in college: **Dr. Sausage and the Missing Links**. ---
