I count 5 US presidents who were commonly known by their initials: TR, FDR, JFK, LBJ and W. Not sure about Millard Fillmore. ---

Wasn’t Thomas Jefferson fondly known to his close friends as “T.J.”? As in: _“Hey look, there’s T.J. hanging out with his B.F.!”_ ---

I have heard Jefferson High School around hereabouts referred to as “TJ”, probably because they want people to know it is not George Jefferson HS. ---

It was my son’s birthday today. The first thing I said to him this morning was the prologue from Little Shop of Horrors: On the twenty third day of the month of September In an early year of a decade not too long before our own The human race suddenly encountered A deadly threat to its very existence And this terrifying enemy surfaced, as such enemies often do In the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places… I spared him the singing, though. 🙂 ---

I saw a real estate ad in a newspaper in the town of Widespot Bitterroots, which used the language “_motivated sellers_”. What the hell is that? “_Oh man, I gotta get outta this three-horse town, it is dragging me to ruin! The deer trampled my garden, a bear ate my dog and my neighbor shot my truck! Someone please buy my rustic_ (fixer-upper) _river-front_ (floods in April) _cottage_ (shack) _so I can move out of this quaint_ (hell-hole) _town, back to the city_ (LA) _where I belong_.” We are drowning in euphemism. ---

When I went to the cottage we had to use the euphemism all the time because there was no indoor plumbing. It had spiders, though. Many, many spiders. ---

As a child, I went to a rustic church camp in Texas, and the outhouse potty was filled with giant balls of Daddy-Long-Leg spiders, all tangled together. Horrifying, but not as bad as the scorpions and huge centipedes. ---
