Oh.
After the first few dozen, it gets easier.

I think my only one was Police Squad. I loved that show and some brain dead exec killed it after 6 episodes. I assume Futurama does not count. I found \*Dead Like Me \* only after Showtime decided to discontinue the show.

Yeah, but that’s always been the joke. They live in this hyper-realized fairyland which leads you to think it’s chaste – but it ain’t chaste. Remember when Ned put the plexiglass in his car so he and Chuck could ride together? And he put a hole in the glass with a rubber glove so they could “touch.” But that glove wasn’t up near his shoulder, was it?

This is the way the show works – because of the way it’s shot and the colorful sets and wacky characters, it seems at first like a confection. But it’s actually very dark indeed.

Good point, but I think you’ve got the specific example of the car-glove wrong. We see them using that to hold hands - while it certainly _could_ be used in other ways, I think we’re meant to see that as its primary purpose.

By the way - did anyone else catch how Chuck saved Ned from the falling Spartan? Now _that_ is quick thinking.

Well, adding your vote to Courteney Cox’s, that brings the planetary total to 2.

Oddly, in a episode that was quite focused on Emerson, he had less hilarious lines than normal, I felt. In fact, I think I laughed less this epsiode than at any other I can remember. Which is not to say I didn’t like it - I did - I just wasn’t howling as I normally am.

I enjoyed the beginning narration, when Emerson found detecting the truth to be “Bad Ass.” Well done by the narrator.

I’m sad to say I can almost guarantee this show will not last, since it is my current favorite and my television heart is always trampled upon by network execs. (Look, you pricks, just because I like _Law & Order_ and it’s been on for 292 years, doesn’t mean you have to cancel every other show I like for balance. Fuckers.)

I normally find David Arquette\* irritating (he seems very caught up in his identity as a wacky guy), but I thought he did a good job in the role, in that I found myself feeling a little sad for the character. He was just such a misfit, and I sympathize with people who struggle to fit in.

I did think Ned was rather a jerk to him at the pie shop. I was glad that Ned apologized, and that Arquette’s character didn’t forgive him instantly.
\*_In all honesty, I find the whole Arquette clan irritating. I don’t know why that is._

They’re kind of like the down-class edition of The Baldwins[sup]TM[/sup]. With the obvious exception being that The Baldwins[sup]TM[/sup] don’t have an attention-whore transgender sibling.

I don’t associate David Arquette as “an Arquette.” I had to google him to get his name. I just think of him as “that guy I like.”

Baldwins, DeLuises and Wilsons, I associate with each other, with varying degrees of like and dislike.

I think this is exactly why I see it as an example of the show using misdirection to pretend it’s a fairy tale when it’s actually quite adult.

Poor post on my part - I hadn’t seen the show yet, and probably shouldn’t have opened the thread or link at the time.

What about the cascade of dead bees being poured onto Ned’s naked body and then coming back to life and flying away?

> I love this show. I know it’s fantasy, and I need to just roll with it. But I cannot figure out why Chuck not only stays around Ned, but why she doesn’t cover herself in saran wrap. If she accidentally brushes up against Ned, she’s dead. There’s living on the edge with your borrowed time, and there’s playing with matches in a gunpowder factory. Chuck is doing the second.

Well I and my viewing companion are of the opinion that since Ned doesn’t know the full extent of his powers doesn’t realize that once someone is ‘alive again’ for a certain amount of time that they become immune to the second touch. I’d even go so far as to say they will have him touch Chuck a second time and will not be able to see what happens to her body, maybe she gets knocked out or something. Then for some reason later (maybe while trying to console Ned) that Digby will rush him and there is nothing that Ned can do about it. He will understand there is a new immunity rule, and Chuck will knock on the door or whatever. I don’ t think that would happen till the end of the show though.

That would be a bit too easy as I think Digby would know if it was safe. This is a dog that has been shown pulling fire alarms already.

Besides, Ned experimented with the parameters of his powers when he was in school. It showed him with two jars of bugs, touching them, timing things. If it was that easy he would’ve figured it out by now.
