Thanks. I knew she looked familiar and I couldn’t place it.
Loved Olive’s song, too. She has an amazing voice.

Because he has the lovely Charlotte living with him and to paraphrase Emerson, “He’s just not into her that way.”

It appears that until Chuck came back into his life he was a basketcase and loner.

BTW: main female character in Daisies is Chuck
In “Dead like Me” it was George and her sister Reggie.
In “Wonderfalls” I think the main female was Jay.

So what is up with the male names for women in his shows?

Not being into Olive that way is evidence of severe dysfunction. Of course, Olive, Ned, & Charlotte are all severely dysfunctional.

I love this show, and I even like the Ned-Chuck dynamic, but they’re nuts. During the Ned-Chuck scene after the teaser, when they were speaking and standing so close to one another, I couldn’t keep from cringing. I could NOT bear being such a danger to the person I loved most in the world. I’d HAVE to break up with her, simply because the thought of accidentally killing her would be intolerable–far, far worse than seeing her be with someone else.

Come on, **Skald** …if Kristen Chenowith came up to you and said, “Take me, I’m yours,” you’d say, “Thanks, but I’m married.”

Unless she’s on your List. But, we can appreciate someone’s beauty and not be in love with them, true?

I cringe too at how close Ned and Chuck get sometimes, but I think we’re supposed to. And wouldn’t his arm get hot, encased in plastic like that?

It has been implied that they have some sort of sex…he told Emerson they use “devices.”

Honestly, I am not all that into Olive either. I almost always prefer the cute brunettes it seems like.

I agree with them standing too close together and I think Bryan Fuller like to mess with his viewers with stuff like this. However, I could see trying to make it work, but maybe I am too much of a romantic.
I nearly forgot, I of course enjoyed the Hobbit bit that Olive was rambling about.

She’s on BOTH our lists, happily, so it’d be a three-way.

Hyperbole aside, my appreciation for Ms. Chenoweth is mostly aesthetic–by which I mean that, though I can name at least four actresses off the top of my head who are more comely, she is simply entrancing. When I am God-King she will be permitted to travel the lands unmolested so long as she wishes.

I’m a romantic too, when I’m not being a corporate drone, a failed novelist, or a psychopathic mass-murdering supervillain currently planning to swamp the eastern seaboard with a tsunamic of sulfuric acid. That’s why I would such proximity intolerable. I’d rather pine away for **Kim the Rhymer** than hurt her. Even RISKNG hurt to her is too distressing to contemplate.

The watch was insurance that Dwight wouldn’t talk - as long as Dwight had it, Chuck’s secret was safe - or more simply, Dwight would use the secret to make sure he got the watch back.

We still dont know what the watch(es) mean - we still don’t know what Dwight’s overall plan was… YET. (here’s hoping we get those bits before #14)

I just realized that the showrunners of the only two scripted shows I watch are both gay (Silvio Horta of _Ugly Betty_ and Bryan Fuller of _Pushing Daisies_). I wonder if I’m picking up on some kind of “gay vibe” that makes me enjoy these shows more than other current scripted shows?

And how can he not touch the fruit multiple times as he makes a pie? Or does the second touch rule only apply to animals?

Simple, he touches the fruit , then puts on gloves.

Actually his recipes explain this a bit. It had some extra notes scribbled in about handling the ingredients.
I can’t find it though. ☹

It applies. He once unknowingly bit into one of his own pies at Vivian & Lily’s and it reverted to rotten fruit in his mouth.

Maybe slightly different rules apply to plants than animals. Hell maybe Chuck’s dad will slowy revert to a normal appearence. He’s the first long dead person Ned’s kept alive for more than a minute.

Best episode in a long time. Lots of great moments

\_ “nether regions”
\_ “clean thoughts, chum”
\_ “that’s the peck of cahoots, which we are not in.”
\_ Lovely Olive cleavage and a song.
\_ The shock of seeing Chuck’s dad was alive. I literally said “Holy shit” out loud.
\_ Cod throwing a shovel and then hearing a cat screech.
\_ the tension of wondering whether Lilly was dead.
\_ the costumes!

Which means, of course, that _Pushing Daisies_ and _Wonderfalls_ are in the same universe. If only we could get Jaye into The Pie Hole before those bastidges take the show off the air…

And of course, there’s a mother superior in some ambiguously alpine nation who looks an awful lot like Jaye’s mother.

And don’t forget about the Happy Time Temp Agency (from _Dead Like Me_) which showed up (in a throwaway line) in the season opener with the bees.

Another quote that made me laugh- when Col. Likkin’s widow said she was going into business with the donut guy, to make “finger lickin’ donut holes!” Ned said:

“Sounds delicious- and filthy!”

Interesting. I didn’t remember that. In the flashback to Ned’s childhood he certainly didn’t have any trouble eating the pies he made.

Or maybe that was before Ned developed his “talent”? Has it been established when he acquired this ability?

I’m certainly not going to harp on these types of inconsistencies. The show is enjoyably clever and original, and I love Olive. And I loved Olive singing Eternal Flame.

I don’t know if they could do this, but I’d love to see them create a reason to have Olive sing a snippet of “Popular” from her role on Broadway as Galinda in Wicked – sort of an inside joke. (Or perhaps more appropriately, have her sing “I’m Not That Girl”)

In the flashbacks he is eating pies made from fresh fruit.

Ned was sent away to boarding school after his mother died, so that’s after his talent was discovered. I believe he gets older fruit because it’s cheaper, and he can zap it back to freshness at any time. (Was it ever revealed how he got the start-up money to start the Pie Hole?) There was a scene where a health inspector discovered all the rotting fruit. But what an irony…the piemaker can’t eat his own pies if he doesn’t use fresh fruit.

Has Olive been in on his magical talents all along? Or did she only find out what was up during the first season?

And, seriously, Ned, Chuck over Olive? That’s as insane as choosing Arwen over Eowyn.
