Diplomatically there were a lot of differences between Medvedev and Putin. Not necessarily on the goals but on the method. Putin with his “Great Russia” dreams and KGB style behaviour and mentality is definitely a source of worries. Medvedev looked much more reasonable and less stuck in the seventies. ---

It’ll be 12 years before he’s subject to term limits again (unless of course he has the constitution amended). That’s plenty of time to find a new puppet. Also he’ll be in his mid-70s (not that the Russians have a problem with geriatric leaders). ---
