Diplomatically there were a lot of differences between Medvedev and Putin. Not necessarily on the goals but on the method. Putin with his “Great Russia” dreams and KGB style behaviour and mentality is definitely a source of worries.
Medvedev looked much more reasonable and less stuck in the seventies.
So, from now on, Putin and Medvedev are gonna take turns as president until one of them dies?
More likely it’ll end up a Roosevelt and Taft situation. I think Putin sees Medvedev as his subordinate and I’m betting Medvedev isn’t happy with this.
Medvedev is far more under Putin’s thumb than Taft ever was under Teddy’s.

I don’t. Dimitri Medvedev has about as much real power as Mikhail Kalinin did.
It’ll be 12 years before he’s subject to term limits again (unless of course he has the constitution amended). That’s plenty of time to find a new puppet. Also he’ll be in his mid-70s (not that the Russians have a problem with geriatric leaders).
