# Putting a link on its own line

So, apparently if you post a link as a line by itself, it’s supposed to create a preview box. I’ve seen other Dopers doing this, but I can’t make it work. Am I missing something?

I can still [embed a link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znFY7PYomEA) in text, but I’m not getting the single-line preview.

It works for YouTube but you need to click on the SHARE button / “embed” and snag THAT version of the link—not grab it from the address bar.

EDIT: so you have to click on the embed link in YouTube and then only paste the URL part of the code. That seems a bit of a faf but it works…

You don’t need to use embed. You can simply click ‘Share’ and copy the `youtu.be` URL.

e.g.

`https://youtu.be/6CFNNldyI-0`
