Gotta disagree. For pure _weirdness_, Quonster (aka The Feudalist) couldn’t be beaten. He was (apparently verified IRL) an Asian immigrant who looked forward to the day when we’d all be serfs again and posted LOOOONG essays on rec.arts.sf.written and soc.history.what-if (among others)(he got in some serious flame-wars with S.M. Stirling) about how we’d all be slaves and like it. What’s weird is that he had this weird fetish: he didn’t think he’d be (or want to be) one of the leaders in the new regime, he wanted to be the leader’s flunky… He posted thousands of messages about the coming Feudalist revolution. He was apparently totally sincere. McElwaine was far more prolific, but Quonster was far, FAR weirder. The other weird one is some cretin named Omar (or some varient). His “gimmick” is/was to show up on rec.arts.comics.dc.universe (and other groups in the rec.arts.comics heirarchy) and say something an obscene or “shocking” word or two in response to just about everyone’s post. He reminded me of the guy in “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” who’s life mission was to insult people. Fenris ---

I got another one - what was the name of that guy who claimed to be, at one time or another, a Brazilian worm farmer and a porn magazine editor? He was nutso. IIRC, he posted a thread challenging everyone to prove that McDonald’s burgers weren’t actually made from worm meat. ---

There are several well-respected posters whom I wouldn’t let within 50 feet of my home, my kid, my cat, or even my septic tank. Frankly, I think there are some serious closet whackos on this board. Watch 'em deconstruct on a few telling threads and tell me _you_ manage to feel the same way about them, even when they’re safely and sanely debating something innocuous like whether Jonagold apples are tastier than Fujis… Even someone who manages to seem normal 90% of the time scares me, given what they’ve freaked over that other 10%. ---

I haven’t yet seen mention of **dragonfly99** whose obsession, IIRC, was subliminal advertising. I believe he briefly reappeared as **dragonfly98**. And there was **blando** and the sunrise, or the sunset, or some such. While maybe not a 'net looney, this thread did make me realize we haven’t heard from **NanoByte** in a bit - hope he’s OK. ---

I posted - well, lurked - on soc.history.what-if, and there is little way for something like Quonster to pass by without you noticing. What I found even more interesting than his feudalist delusions were the pathetic alternate histories he tried to submit. These included Korea invading Texas, Germans winning WW1 by their secret weapon called lancers (this, of course, was a cunning codename for men on horses, charging the enemy with… lances) and one titled “What If Big Bird Raped The Nymph?” However, if we are allowed to speak about non-SDMB lunatics, I’d like to mention my sweet old home [Apolyton.net forums.](http://apolyton.net/forums) There, we had (well, still have) this one guy called Evan von Christoph. Evan first appeared about two years ago. Back then, he was a fascist. He hated homosexuals and space aliens (and it was pure ice-cold loathing for space aliens, too) and espoused fascist dogma. He also advertised himself as commander of something called “Truppen Der Todes”, an organization of which he didn’t divulge much information except that it was planning to take over the US and he was it’s commander. He pretended to be of German descent. The name “Truppen der Todes” proves how much of German blood he had in him. That, of course, still keeps him as normal forum lunatic. Dime-a-dozen. Sort of which there are on every forum. However, then someone named Emperor Craetsezar appeared. It was hate on first sight between EvC and EC. Emperor wanted a return to imperial Rome, with preferably himself as Emperor. He also had suspiciously similar posting style to EvC. He and EvC had long long flame wars, where there were new posts every 11 minutes. Later it was found out that EvC was conducting these flame wars with two computers, running between them and flaming his other login. Then came Lucifer D. Satan. Lucy, as we called him, was a Satan-worshipper, who promised death and servitude to his master for all of us. EvC hated him, and then was revealed to be him. Then came General Steelman. General Steelman was supposedly American intelligence officer, who was concerned about “dangerous terrorist organization called Truppen der Todes”, and asked us for information about it’s leader, Evan von Christoph. Not surprisingly, EvC was him, too. All the while, the ‘real’ EvC would flame people, praise his ideology, accuse moderators of stepping beyond their powers (Shining gems of this were “Apolyton Files”, periodical anti-moderator rants.) Every few months or so, he’d announce he was leaving, and without exception, in few weeks he would be back as good as ever. All this behavior earned him the title “Apolyton Daffy Duck”. Well, then, he was gone for an extended period, and to tell you the truth, we had kind of forgotten him. Then he came back. He said that all his behavior had been a joke and that he was really a homosexual and on medication. He continued to post, and usually these posting periods descended to normal, regular EvC behavior, flaming everyone in sight. Then he’d post again that he hadn’t been taking his medication or whatever the reason was that time. Then he changed his name to “Cecil”. And currently he alternates between destructive, near-suicidal mode and Christian mode. We still aren’t - can’t be - sure if this is very very very elaborate and well-pulled-off joke by a very smart individual or one genuinely disturbed individual. And, of course, that is a sign of a true lunatic. ---
