# Q on caps in username

Quite some time ago I posted [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=100874). Sometime after that, I doubt I even realized it for months, my username was always in lowercase on the boards no matter how I typed it.
This just made me wonder because I’ve seen other all caps names since then.
I don’t care anymore on how it looks, rather I prefer to have it in lowercase (although the capital “C” would be nice). I was just wondering why it is different.

I think it changed when we switched to the new software… or somewhere around then.

**clayton\_e** - I believe you could be right about the change happening automatically in a conversion.
There are options in many operating systems to convert the old MS-Dos file names from the days of all uppercase names automatically.
I’ve run into that myself, where copying files with lots of acronymns got converted to lowercase; a folder named SDMB would become sdmb.
