# Q: What is Something That One of Ann Coulter Friends IS, But Edwards ISN'T?

Yeah. Ann Coulter has a friend who was a gay porn star/manwhore. And this is supposed to be a shocking revelation?
I suppose in certain circles–the really dumb conservative circles I mentioned earlier–this might be a shocking revelation. But to us cognoscenti? Come on.
How do I know Ann Coulter doesn’t really believe her schtick? Well, I guess it depends on what I mean by “believe”? The shocking revelation that one of her best buds is a former manwhore is one piece of evidence I suppose. As far as hating gays, I suppose only a minority of the conservative leadership really deep-down has a problem with gays. Most are closet tolerants, to borrow Andrew Sullivan’s phrase. Now, in some ways this makes their public gay bashing (or cowardly refusal to oppose public gay bashing) worse, because they do it out of political calculation rather than sincere belief. But the bad thing is not that they’re hypocrites, the bad thing is that they publicly bash gays. Which guy is the bigger scumbag, a conservative who casts his lesbian daughter out of the family, or a conservative who refuses to cast her out of the family? Of course the best would be a conservative who privately embraces his gay daughter AND publicly embraces gay rights, but still.
Wait, this is about Ann Coulter, not Dick Cheney. Of course she’s an evil harpy. But what matters to her isn’t that she insult liberals, what matters is that she gets to insult SOMEONE, and her chosen target turns out to be liberals. Her motivation isn’t ideological, it’s sadism and ego gratification mixed with a heaping helping of publicity whoring.

Personally, I think that every time Coulter shows up at a prominent conservative function or in a right-leaning media outlet, we need to bring as much attention to it as possible.
The only thing Coulter has to do with this story is that Sanchez was given an award on the same afternoon that Coulter showed us her inner sixth grader, and they happened to get a picture together. The story doesn’t need Coulter to be good.

I’d like to know whether the Jeane Kirkpatrick estate approved or got a payment for allowing this award to be named after her, or if CPAC just pulled the title out of their ass and ran with it.

I saw that. He was talking about the number of fiances and wives he’s had. His agent really should have told him that there’s at least rumored to be a _hetero_ porn market and _women_ who will pay for sex out there. (I guess he’s a Roman- “It ain’t gay unless you’re the bottom”.)

What evidence do you have for this, besides her willingness to compromise a weakly-held principle when caught?
Increasingly, ISTM, the one remaining conservative principle besides ‘no new taxes’ is ‘stick it to libruls.’ The point of global warming denial, for instance, amongst those who don’t have a particular economic interest at stake, seems to be ‘it’ll piss off the left.’ Coulter may have a completely honest desire to demonize libruls, without any deep attachment to conservative positions she’s given lip-service to.

When I first heard the Coulter remark I dropped into the Pit looking for a place to scream at or about her. But several of you cooler Dopers made a good point. Coulter making outrageous remarks is just Coulter being Coulter. Getting pissed at her for it would be like getting pissed at a dog that eats its own vomit. It’s just being a dog. Come to think of it. . . so is Coulter! Thanks for cooling me down. My blood pressure is high enough.
