Q: Why Amish Reject the Modern World?

Something else which I should have mentioned is that the Amish and Mennonites are quite supportive of volunteer fire companies, at least in central PA-Lancaster County, specifically.
They will not drive fire apparatus-that task is left to we English, but otherwise they are the backbone of the membership in a number of departments, and are hard-working souls. One Chief told me that it looks like Tour de France when the siren goes off-all of the bicycle Mennonites responding to the station. Another fire station in Lancaster County has a large roofed pavilion behind the station with a water trough running down the middle. All of the horses are afforded cover and fresh water while their owners are occupied with fire house business. As a long time exhibitor at Fire Expo in Harrisburg, I can assure you that the Amish and Mennonites aren’t adverse to modern technology-they stop by our booth and ask many detailed questions indicating a strong background knowledge, they just restrict technology’s presence in their homes.

fetus, your comment is out of line for GQ. Please refrain.

Thanks.

Sorry. That makes me a hypocrite. My bad, Wendell Wagner.

I wonder how the Amish feel about Weird Al Yankovic’s song Amish Paradise?

When my Amish built shed was delivered last week (truck driven by a non-Amish dude), I was a little troubled. I didn’t know if I should tip for the delivery. Then I realized that is . I tipped and confessed to Eli that the whole thing was over-thought by me. We had a laugh.
