**…SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY!!11** I think that is something that has to be said again. QED, as a SDSAB, you do not have to pay for being a member here, so [quit shitting](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=460168&page=1&pp=50) on people who are not entirely happy to pay for a service and then not be able to use it. Nobody cares how many times you may have searched a month, all we care care about is that we can’t search now. So could you just quit being a dick? I know that it’s difficult to change your personality, but give it a try anyway. And quit the Junior Modding while yer at it too. Oh yeah, GODDAMOTHERFUCKINGOATFELCHINGBASTARDKISSMYBROWNASS##33 I feel better now. ---

I think Q.E.D.'s argument in this thread is valid because it is his opinion and he can express it.(Although in that thread, I don’t agree with him) But it shouldn’t have been done in that thread. Coming into a question thread and telling people their concern was invalid just snow balled beyond intent. Now, on the other hand, BBQ is a perfect place for that. How do we know that SDSAB doesn’t pay? ---

SDSAB don’t pay; it’s no big secret. For people like me, this was not really meant to be a reward of some sort. The original intent, from conversations I’ve had with higher ups, was to allow people who write content for the website to be able to respond to questions and comments on the articles after they’ve been written, and to act as representatives of the Straight Dope by helping out to answer questions in the fields which we are good at. There was an e-mail to that effect, IIRC, about the very week that the board went pay-to-post, that said or else implied that we were expected to keep contributing articles, we were expected to be available as domain experts, and we were expected to otherwise positively represent the ideals of the Straight Dope. In the case of the ex-Moderators and ex-Admins who have SDSAB status, and who do not or did not write for the website - in their case, my understanding is that it is a (appropriate, if small) reward for the untold hundreds or thousands of hours they spent slogging through the board and answering e-mails and otherwise trying to clean up crap during their tenure. Who can argue with that? ---

I’ve never had a problem with staff/ex staff not paying for membership for whatever reason. The problem I have had since this whole thing started was Q.E.D saying essentially that because we only pay a pittance for access to the board, we should STFU and quit our bitching. This rankles more than anything because it’s fine for him to say we get a lot for our money - He doesn’t pay for his access to post on the board. He doesn’t have the right to determine what I, as a paying customer, should find relevant to complain about or not. However, it didn’t piss me off enough to start a pit thread about it, which is why I kept it to my thread up in ATMB. ---

[/QUOTE] Leaving aside the back-and-forth of the ATMB thread, QED has paid for numerous memberships for others on here. I’m not rebutting your overall point, all I’m saying is whether or not his specific membership is paid is tangential because through his generosity he has dug deep to give money to the Board. ---
