Obviously, I completely misunderstood the question about “pairs.” I was trying to think of animals that pair-bond. I thought of a few songbirds, dolphins, and of course, humans. Went with penguins.
Pickled beets are a big thing in my family (northern Appalachia). They’re always homemade, and you stick a few hard-boiled eggs in with them and pickle those, too.
