I’ve long thought that “strawman” is the most hackneyed, overused phrase in GD, period. Seems that the rules are pretty much, “First to yell strawman wins!”
Hey there j66 - I think I survived (but it was a close call, to be sure). What’s more, the same subject is in GD (I think…mixing forums at this point) and I may have pissed off some anti-choice folks there. Sorry!
I love going into the Pit and posting something rational, sweet and fluffy like a kitten…it generally kills the thread immediately.

Now, the odd thing is…I have killed both the Pit and GD threads. So this would lead me to conclude that: A) my comments were so brilliant that they can’t be disputed, OR B) We have a brief time-out while those that don’t agree with me load their shotguns. :eek:

Right after you yell “STRAWMAN!” remember to start picking at the posters typos, grammar and general use of the language. This is a must… because we all know that NO one who has a serious oipinion ever makes a typo.

The argument from my point of view would be that I have had several “needle sticks” from attempting to draw blood (in my capacity as a respiratory therapist) from someone I treat . I don’t like going through the repeated testing involved to find out if I might have been infected, so it would help if I had some prior knowledge that I was treating an HIV patient, just in case he/she becomes unmanageable and the needle I use goes into me after it has entered the patient’s blood vessel.
I work in an ER setting and we also get spit at a lot as well, which is why we always should (but rarely do) use what is termed “Universal Precautions” (gowns, gloves and face shields). All that gear is hot* and we can’t always get it on us in time.
HIPAA is a “patient confidentiality” protective measure, which you may or may not have enountered already.
So whatcha’ll think? Go for it or not?

Hmmm. Maybe it’s just me, but I think 99% would say of course you deserve to know as a Caregiver. Perhaps you should go with a topic that divides the masses (As in: are cats or dogs smarter? Do small towns or large cities produce the most intelligent people? Is it better to be rich or happy?) Those are all really ignorant examples, but you catch my drift.
