I thought Quayle’s main function as VP was to be Bush’s anti-impeachment insurance.
It’s true.
To answer the OP: no. But I was delighted to read that she and Dan met while working on a draft of the Indiana death penalty statute. Romance just doesn’t get any better than that.
Even if she wanted to run, where’s her natural constituency?
Right now, you’ve got Jeb Bush as the candidate of Big Business and the country club set, in the lead. Then there are about 20 candidates and possible candidates, all struggling to get 2 or 3% support.
Who’s going to flock to Marilyn Quayle? Who’s going to give her money? What sector of Republican voters would she excite?
I missed coming back for my victory lap :smack:
I actually think of Biden as the example of the missing internal filter. Quayle’s issue seemed to be an inability to think quickly on his feet and express it clearly. You could usually see at least the hint of an idea…as the word salad poured out of his mouth.
IMO the only downside to Bentsen using that line was he mildly showed up Dukakis at the same time. Not that it took a lot of personality to do that.
Glad to have confirmation - thanks!
