Queen Charlotte Island Earthquake, Tsunami Warning?

Yeah, I went to OIMB in Charleston for a semester. Not much there, nearest hospital or real town is 11 miles away in Coos Bay. But it definitely exists, and I imagine there are some students there right now whooping it up and waiting to watch some weather, lol.

In fact…here’s the one pic of me out there that isn’t on my own Facebook page, lol.

Spring Semester, 91. If you follow from the bottom left, go to the fourth one in, a guy, and I’m the girl sitting behind him. My hair was kinda big then, but curly hair+constant, misty-wet salt-water weather, and yeah. Didn’t stand a chance. Also, I appear to be smiling. That NEVER HAPPENS, so I consider it kind of a miracle picture. If I ever get big and famous, well, there ya go. The only public pic out there!

Tsunami warning for Hawaii.

I’m at Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu and just heard the warning on TV. The folks at the hotel say there’s no danger but I may strap on a life vest to be safe. Seriously though, it’s a little nerve racking. I can handle tornado warnings but this is my first tsunami.

They just broke in on TV and said they’re looking at about 5 feet.

The Oregonian says that something like one foot waves are expected in Alaska.

Sirens going off in Honolulu, I just heard. (Online, not in person)

I felt it in Prince George, which is quite a bit inland from the coast. A weird rolling sensation you could feel in your stomach. I just thought I was reacting to the sinus medication I had taken until I saw the light fixtures swinging! I remember the aftershocks that happened here in the 80’s after an Alaskan earthquake, so it did cross my mind.

CBC seems to be reporting no serious damages, they have had a few phone interview with people on Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert and other than being on alert and moving away from coastal areas, they don’t seem to be reporting damage or injuries.

sirens just went off in my town. I live on the beach so I will be going up the mountain.

Reports are that the waves are quite puny, so you should be good to go Olive. Let us know when you get back that all is well.

I am not **too **worried about the tsunami. I don’t want to take any chances. I am more worried about the storm on the east coast because of a family medical emergency.

I also live in Prince George and felt is as well. The house swayed back and forth in one to two second cycles for about 30 seconds. Lamps swinging, plants swaying back and forth. We are about 700km/400 miles from the epicenter.

Here at Turtle Bay the villas and cottages are being evacuated to the main building. We’re on one of the higher floors so we’ll be safe.

I have family and friends in Chetwynd, more north than Prince George, and they felt it too.

I also have a friend in Haida Gwaii and messaged her on Facebook. She said it’s the scariest thing that she’s ever been through. Very intense. She went to a friend’s house above the high water zone and stayed for a few hours just in case, but they didn’t get any significant flooding.

My house is still here, south of White Rock. If there was a tsunami, I missed it. (Also, I live up a hill.) :stuck_out_tongue:

A friend in Craig AK reported a .3Ft wave in the harbor. I went down to the beach and couldn’t see anything noticeable. I felt a little nauseous around the time of the earthquake but wouldn’t have noticed anything without the emergency warning system.

They just had a 6.+ after shock, there have been a few other aftershocks, but this one has been the largest so far.
