Oh, man, I have a real-world answer with an accompanying story! One of my good buddies held a job at a university in an office overseen by a lazy, but dictatorial, boss. The boss was rarely at work, preferring to spend most of her time running personal errands or even just staying home. The thing is, she lied compulsively about this. Whenever she’d call in, she’d invent work-related tasks that she claimed to be doing; typically this took the form of fictional offsite meetings that, seemingly, she was constantly headed to or from. Her subordinates like to keep tabs on her. This was partly a game and partly so they could predict when she was likely to pop into the office. Whenever an employee would communicate with the boss, that employee would mass email his co-workers with the environmental clues. You know, something like: “1:34pm phone conversation. Background sounds: daytime TV; children making noise; cooking sounds. Claimed to be at meeting with Registrar’s Office. Likely actual location: home.” The employees thought about the most boring, least compelling subject line they could put on these emails. They came up with “Process.” My buddy kept a log in a text file called “ **Process.txt**.” That’s my recommendation. ---

If I were creating a file of every type of fruit I’ve ever eaten, that might seem to be bragging to someone who’s gotten by on a diet of bread and water, too. Threadshit much?) focus on the simplest parts of my life (earning a living, publishing articles and books, having relationships with women, tying my shoes) to announce “PRR couldn’t possibly do THAT!”, telling me how difficult you apparently find it to achieve these rather mundane accomplishments. Anyway, I appreciate the nesting idea, but while I’m working on this list, I’d like to keep it handy, not requiring me to bore down through a series of steps to reach the folder. In fact, I’d like it in plain sight on my desktop so I can access it in a minute. Yesterday, as an example, I was walking to the subway when I suddenly remembered a girl I cheated on my first girlfriend with, which was rather dramatic at the time, mainly because these two women were acquainted, and I spent the next few weeks seeing that they spent as little time together as I could arrange–this was, as you might suppose, a hectic period in my life some forty years ago but which I had completely forgotten. When I remembered her name (her last name took me a few minutes), I needed to jot it down before I forgot it again, and was glad to have the list right there on my desktop. I’m just looking for a really boring name for this Excel file. ---

I thought I was rather sweetly pointing out in the OP how easy and predictable it would be to threadshit this one, and requesting that you simply devise boring file names for my little problem, but apparently not. Why don’t you open up a Pit thread about my “interpersonal dysfunction”? I might even read it at some point in the future. ---
