Here’s another wild thought… the curse had to have SOME escape clause or ending condition… just part of the rules of magic, they didn’t have enough power to cast a spell that would last forever. The gypsy who first wrote the curse came up with something that seemed really unlikely to happen. That’s all there was to it.
