It’s Undernet, and if you happen to be on a different group of servers than the chat is (when Undernet is crowded), you’ll think you’re in the channel, but you won’t be linked with the others. If you get an empty chat when you think there should be people there, try connecting through a server in a different region. ---

If you’re using the applet on Opal’s site, you need to do the following: (A) Log into it as usual. Then type /server [us.undernet.org](http://us.undernet.org) (B) Once you’re on an Undernet server, type /join #StraightDope Standard Boilerplate: #StraightDope is not endorsed nor administered by the staff of the SDMB, the Reader or anyone else who normally has to do with the Straight Dope. It is not offical, nor near offical, nor really having anything to do the The Straight Dope except that we use the name since we’re pretty much all folks from this here board. ---
