# Question about "Mafia sheets" (printed bed linens)

I had never heard of these until today, when I was at a salvage store and saw them for sale at $2.99 a set. They’re bed linens screen-printed with bright, colorful designs and have an Indian-from-India feel. They sell for about $30 a set on Amazon.
The reason I’m posting this here is because I couldn’t find out where they got their name, which is likely a big turn-off for potential buyers. The lady who was working there didn’t know either, but I think her job was just to sort and price the gaylord contents and put them out for display in the store.
Might this be a language thing, like “Barf” laundry detergent? The word means “snow” in Farsi, according to this. (Likewise, during the 1996 presidential race, Iranian commentators and parents had a time with Bob Dole’s name, because “Dole” is the Farsi word for “penis”, which is kind of ironic because a few years later, former candidate Dole was appearing in Viagra ads.)

The word Mafia has never been a turn off for potential buyers of anything. I can think of few other concepts that have been marketed as part of pop culture with such success.

All I can think of is the scene in _The Godfather_ when Woltz wakes up to find a severed horse head in his bed. Not a great selling feature for quality bed linens. :eek:
