How do you handle making a portfolio of your work when you worked for a company and not yourself? I’m a web developer, so I can’t hand over code like you usually would for a job. Can I just present a list of websites that are currently live that I’ve worked on (with purty formatting, of course)? I’m not a backend developer, I’m more interested in showing the design implementations I’ve done, so they can still see code via View Source.

You could as long as they’re public. You could also contemplate working up samples that showcase techniques you’re particularly good at.
