Question about the pharmacy business

Everyone’s already said what I was going to, regarding the pharmacy doubling (tripling, etc.) as a soda fountain/lunch counter, comic book store, etc.

I met a pharmacist who graduated in the late 1950s, and her (that’s right, HER) first job was at a drugstore, owned by a married couple, that had two parts. The back end was the pharmacy, owned and run by the husband, and the front end was the wife’s territory; she sold pet care supplies. She also said that the owner openly paid himself more, but she didn’t mind because in addition to him having extra responsibilities because he was the owner, he would do things like come in at 3am to unload bird cages off the truck.
