# Question about "This is Spinal Tap"

In the movie, when they’re showing the band in one of its earlier incarnations, they’re playing a song called “Gimme Some Money.” I know I’ve heard the song elsewhere, I think maybe in _Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead_. So did this song exist seperate from the movie, recorded by someone else, and was used in Spinal Tap? Or was this one of the songs that Guest and company wrote?

_This is Spinal Tap_ came out in 1984.

_Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead_ came out in 1991.

All of the songs performed by Spinal Tap in the movie are original numbers.

The [IMDB soundtrack listing](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101757/soundtrack) for **Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead** does indeed list “Gimme Some Money”, performed by Spinal Tap.

But it SHOULD have listed them as the Thamesmen!

Maybe it wasn’t the original recording, but a later performance. 🙂
