Question for fitness nuts about walking & loss of inches

Snoopy my advice to you is don’t get hung up on calories and stuff right now. Work as hard as you can for as long as you’ve got time. Eat what’s right for you and your new lifestyle.

When you get closer to your goal you will find it’s harder to lose weight and need to pay more attention to such things. Just do what feels comfortable for now. At our size (I’m with you!) ANY movement is wonderful for you and any little bit you push yourself helps.

Don’t get me wrong, I count stuff too hehe…ever check out www.fitday.com ? I use it religiously, even when I “cheat”. But a good thing to remember is to use it at the end of the day to see how you’ve done and reflect on that, instead of planning your day around it.

Good luck again!

As I posted twice before, you burn 100 calories per mile, and this is roughly the same no matter the pace (although it is slightly more at a faster pace).

I burn 200 calories per mile walking. Those calorie charts are designed for someone who weighs about 150 pounds. Put someone 300+ pounds on a treadmill and they burn more by virtue of their body having to work harder. That’s the ONE nice thing about being fat in a gym: the athlete next to me running 6 miles an hour for 20 minutes won’t burn as many calories as I will simply walking for 40  BWAHAHAHA!

You’re right about one thing, tho. At an incline, going 3.3mph, I burn about 10 calories a minute. If I lose the incline and drop down to 3, it averages out to about 9. Not a significant change.
