Maybe it was Middle America’s idea of sexy underwear, but no longer. There was a big Times article on them which said that they haven’t changed much in their line or in their marketing for decades. My wife does not shop there, but looking in their windows shows stuff that might have been there in the mid-70s.
Victoria’s Secret is I ain’t paying that much for a pair of uncomfortable panties. Ever.
I bought kaylsmom a very nice pair of pajamas with a matching robe there in 1991. Since then, it’s been mostly for fragrances, such as “Love Spell,” since discontinued, so we haven’t been there for a few years.
If that’s how we’re swinging, I’ll vote for
which I’m sure I can buy organic in tie-dye colors around here.
I have never shopped for anything in any of their stores. It all seemed over priced and not my style.
Nope - a woman’s bra size changes over time. Could be weight gain/loss, pregnancy, menopause, whatever. But you certainly don’t have to get it done often.
At one time they had quality stuff. In addition to the sexy stuff they had, for instance, silk pajamas. You know, made out of silk. Silk nightshirts, very finely made cotton knit bathrobes (good because no static, yay).
In recent years their “silk” nightshirts have become polyester, their “cotton” pjs have become 60% cotton and 40% polyester, if it has buttons they fall off, or else they do not fit in the buttonholes.
In short: A huge decrease in the quality of the materials and the selection. You can’t get actual silk anything there any more, for any amount of money.
That would be a problem for a place called Victoria’s Secret.
Yes. I’ve been very frustrated in my attempts to buy a silk robe. I received one from VS as a gift over 20 years ago, but was unable to replace it there last year for the reasons you give.
I have bought my last two bras there, and they were not sexy pink lacy push up bras. I can’t remember the name of the brand but they are the most comfortable bras I’ve ever worn. They’re kind of like a sports bra in that there’s no hook or latch and I pull it down over my head, but it’s not as snug as a sports bra. It’s a “lightly-lined” “plunging” bra with straps that cross in the back.
I will never buy another kind. I know they’re expensive, but you get what you pay for. I’ve never had much success with the Wal-mart/Target brands.
FWIW, I’ve had good luck with WinterSilks for glove & sock liners, balaclava hats & such.
Victoria’s Secret used to be a good place (late '90s - early '00s) for endowed women to find supportive, pretty bras. Department stores did (and still do) tend to stock only very basic colors in larger sizes; Victoria’s Secret offered a welcome break from that. Heck, you could even find matching panties in a variety of different cuts! They reached a point about 10 or so years ago when they started to cater their offerings toward smaller women and teens; also, the quality of their products absolutely tanked, while their prices remained high. I found much better, prettier, and more durable bras by visiting a local specialty store; I’ve also noticed quite a few specialty lingerie shops springing up online.
Victoria’s Secret started its Pink line which was marketed to young women. Which I think indicates the company’s problem; its main line of products isn’t seen as trendy by young women.
another thing is … there not in “fashion” for everyday wear anymore… a lot of older women view then as a place to by something for like a honeymoon or anniversary but not for everyday wear ……
I’m not a woman, but I am a crossdresser who used to love Victoria’s Secret (even had the card) but haven’t gone in years. Why?
They’ve discontinued the more comfortable panty types and instead offer a lot of lace heavy or G-string style panties. Look great on displays, but real annoying to wear.
It’s impossible to find bras over 38, not a great idea as the population continues to grow in size.
Places like Target and TJ Maxx offer products comfortable in quality and style at much lower prices. Hell, I can get bras for just $20 at a fancy place at Macy’s.
As others have said…their heyday was the 90’s through the mid-2000’s. Lots of cute pajamas (I still have a pair… red flannel with Scottie Dogs), cute clothes, and well fitting decent quality bras and panties. Even D/DD girls like me could find a cute, fun bras in a variety of fabrics.
Sometime in the mid/late-2000’s they discontinued nearly all of their comfortable styles, nothing had support, even if I could find my size. They began to focus on their PINK line and it was low quality, inferior merchandise.
I haven’t shopped there since maybe 2005.
My wife used to work at Victoria’s Secret from 2010 - 2016 and she echoes that statement. She’s a 36E bra size and they used to carry her size all over the store so she greatly enjoyed the employee discount. Then over the years she started seeing less and less stuff in her size until all she could basically buy were cosmetics and panties. By the time she left most of the bras seemed to end at D and that was it.
I asked a few female relatives that shopped there and they said they stopped going there when VS decided that college age exotic dancer/escort services types were the better market (one mentioned Ariana Grande for her example) ,
Thank you. I’ve discovered them during my search!
I mostly just buy their undies, during the semi-annual sale. I’ve found which styles I like & that consistently fit me, and during the sale they’re like 3 bucks a piece and last me for years.
Bras with V.S. are pretty hit-or-miss, but then, bras are pretty hit-or-miss everywhere, in my boob owning experience.
Oh, man. I hope I don’t have to find a new panty brand. I hate clothes shopping.
