Question for you Catholic dopers....

I was born and raised a Catholic. The other day I came across an old box I had. Inside I came across what I remember to be a holy scapular. This one was worn by my uncle during his time in Vietnam in the 70’s. Given to my grandmother and passed down to me. Obviously it has some sentimental value.

The thing that struck me is that this one is green. The scapulars that I remember from childhood were brown. Is there a difference with the two? Different meanings or blessings that each bear?

Also, I seem to remember my sister wearing one that had both of the cloth parts rolled up (does this make any sense?) Was this just something that she did or should it be rolled? What meaning does this hold (If any?)

The green scapular is not emblematic of any confraternity, so, unlike the brown scapular of the Carmelites, which must be invested to the wearer, the green may be worn without an investiture ceremony. It is emblematic of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and assists in the conversion of souls, particularly those souls who have no faith. It may be folded and placed secretly inside the clothing or home of someone who is obstinate or fallen away from the faith. I don’t know of any reason to fold it when the wearer is aware of it.
