I totally agree, @terentii. Hate that show. I watched it as a kid because I wanted to see Ellie-Mays pet animals and the terminally asleep hound dog. The jokes were never clever, and alot of cringe. Even as a youngster I knew this. ---

But then, she considered C&W to be the pinnacle of Western music. The series really should have been canned after the first few seasons, since the jokes had long since gotten stale. At the end of its run, the Clampetts were just as clueless on Day 274 as they were on Day 1. ---

Iowa doesn’t have the highway infrastructure to support a viable population of serial killers. ---

Iowa has a 115,000 miles of roads. Lots of farm to market infrastructure dating back to horse and wagon days. Maybe not serial killer friendly, but for bicyclists, great. Lived there 5 years and crossed the state a half dozen times for the Register Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. RAGBRAI. Friendly folks in all my contacts. ---

If you’re driving through the state, I recommend stopping wherever someone is running a second-hand store, even if it’s only in his garage or barn. The selection of old-timey things you’ll find there is bewildering. On one trip to a historical reenactment, a comrade-in-arms found a pair of WWI-era puttees that was in perfect condition. I don’t remember what he paid for them, but it wasn’t much (just a few dollars), and they went straight into his collection of vintage uniforms.
