Zombiefying the thread to ask whether anything much has changed since 2015? I have a similar question re. fares (flying NYC-Chicago for a convention June 21-24) and trying to decide whether to book now or wait. I looked at flights a month ago, don’t remember the exact prices but I think they were around $240 for the times that work best for me and now they seem a little higher ☹

And does this other similar thread still look helpful, or outdated? [When is it cheaper to buy plane tickets? - Factual Questions - Straight Dope Message Board](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=737139)

As mentioned above, generally speaking, the longer you wait the higher the prices will get (as you’ve already seen.)

Look for an app called Hopper. It follows, then predicts, whether the fare you’re looking at, will jump or drop. I always check it before I book.
