I don’t think the OP was being racist or trolling. I think he just wanted to make sure he wasn’t going to end up being perceived as a poseur and end up provoking someone because of it, like his example of someone provoking ire by wearing a Hell’s Angel shirt.

It’s not a closely guarded secret and it’s not limited to black people but I’m throwing out the quote because it relates to this thread.

There is nothing irrational about being caught out in the wrong neighborhood. That situation comes in many flavors. It sounds like the op wants to know if that kind of situation can occur in public places where he may inadvertently come across a group of trouble makers. The answer is it depends on where you’re at and any other circumstances that would add to or subtract from the situation. An older white guy walking around with a sideways ball cap with the bill turned up and wearing saggy pants is probably going to garner derision from black kids. the same would apply in any combination to any group of kids.
