I might sound like a total jackass asking this, but I never really grasped the concept behind it- Why do people place quarters next to a piece of jewelry when they photograph it? I’ve also seen this with other things as well- from make-up to electronics. Why do people do this? ---

Some people put rulers in their picture. Everyone has it right - it’s simply to give you an idea of the actual size of the object, comparing it to an item you KNOW the size of. ---

Which is why Batman’s early attempts at getting work as a photographer failed so miserably: that giant penny kept showing up in all the pictures, and nobody wanted to buy a teensy little necklace. ---
