I hate to be a little off colored on this one post but it is a question that I must ask. My little cousin has complained about a darker or almost black like poop. My aunt did ask the doctor but never told me what he said, and being that he did do that at my house I would like to know what was wrong. Hey you never know, this could happen to me and I’ll know what was wrong. Thanks ---

Happens to me every time I eat blueberries (I usually eat a LOT of them… they’re my favourite fruit). Maybe he just ate something that dyed it… ---

Dark feces can be caused by many things. If it was a one-time incident, it probably was something he ate: too much iron, etc. If he continues to have it, it could be an indication of intestinal bleeding, which has to be looked into. ---

Dr. Spock’s baby book recommends putting a little chocolate syrup in your child’s formula to convince yourself just how long food stays in a baby’s system, because it turns the stool black. (Why you wanted to know this, I forget. Maybe if you think they swalowed something and are waiting for it to reappear.) ---

A piece of advice, **qwertyasdfg** : Think of better subject lines for your threads. Yes, this is a question. So is every other thread in this forum. If you had called the thread, say, “Black poop” or “question about excretion” or some such, then people would have had some idea what the thread was about, and someone who knows a lot about the digestive system might be more inclined to read it. As it is, you’ve just got the incredibly compulsive or curious folks who obsessively read every thread in GQ, regardless of whether it’ll be interesting. ---
