Questions about "Pandemic"

Call me out of touch, but $40 for a game with the production quality, consistently high ratings, and re-playability of Pandemic is an absolute steal.

(I mean, try to get it for cheaper, but if you can’t, $40 is excellent value in this case given typical game pricing.)

$40 doesn’t really seem unreasonable to me at all. A good boardgame (Note: I make no particular statements about Pandemic’s quality, since I’m not a big fan) will entertain you for longer than $60 video game. Which is still a steal compared to, say, 5 $12 movie tickets, and probably competitive with a similar number of paperback books.

Seriously. Why is $40 “so expensive”?

Thank you very much for all the replies. This game has been added to my birthday wish list.

Agreed. $35-$40 or so seems to be a fairly common price point for modern board games; from what I’m able to see from poking around on Amazon and other sites, it’s what the basic sets for games like Catan and Carcassone cost. And, it’s not at all unusual to see “big box” board games, like Arkham Horror, retail for significantly more than that.

I just backed a Kickstarter game for $80 and that doesn’t include shipping. I got my copy of Pandemic Legacy on Amazon for sale at $36 (with shipping) back in June.
