3rd Battalion of the [24th Infantry Regiment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24th_Infantry_Regiment_(United_States)), not division (the [24th Infantry Division](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24th_Infantry_Division_(United_States)) were an entirely different unit).

There were a total 7 (or 8, by another source from 1973) commissioned officers in that unit in 1917, none of them Black. There were of course many Black NCO’s, but 25 of the best has been cherry-picked to be sent off to the one and only war-time training camp for Black officers in WW I (held starting May, 1917). Participants at that training camp would eventually be commissioned into the [92nd Infantry Division](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/92nd_Infantry_Division_(United_States)).
