Just seeing what happens if I use markup in titles.

Nope, doesn’t work. Thought it might–at least the simple stuff. Guess we still have to use nonstandard emphasis.

So. Shall we lock it now, or what?

It works if you do it right.

_Put as single asterisk before and after text to make it italics_. Same as the [i]. . .[/i] tags.

**Put double asterisks before and after text to make it bold.** Same as [b]. . .[/b] tags.

_ **Put triple asterisks before and after text to make it bold and italic.** _

Those asterisks must be right next to the text with no blank spaces.

As for headings:

# Put a single # followed by a space

at the beginning of a line for a top-level (biggest) heading line.

## Two ## followed by a space

at the beginning of a line for second-level (second-biggest) heading line.

### Three ### followed by a space

at the beginning of a line for third-level (third-biggest) heading line.

#### Four #### followed by a space

at the beginning of a line for a fourth-level (least-biggest) heading line.

That’s one way to make heading lines. There are other ways too.

ETA: Oh waitaminnit. Upon closer reading, I see your whole point was to do it in a thread title.
