You can’t go wrong with a gift certificate to a store he likes. It shows a little more effort than just giving him money, and you won’t have to try and guess what he would like. ---

I’ll second that gift certificate idea. Life will be much easier once we old fogeys realize that our tastes are not their tastes, and that teenagers want to pick out their own stuff. (Heck, even if we pick out something they \*would \*like, the mere fact that an old fogey picked it out now means that they are not allowed to like it anymore. It’s in the Teed Creedo.) Make it for Best Buy or whatever video game emporium is near you. As much as I hate the bloody things (video games), chances are very, very good that he likes them, which is what a birthday present should be. ---

Make out a card, sit him if front of a computer, log onto Amazon, & tell the little nipper to go nuts. And be a sport–spring for ASAP delivery. ---

Whatever you do, don’t give him UndeRoos - my mom got them for some of my cousins when they were 12-13-ish. Cousins thought it was a mislabeled gift. Much embarrassment all around. ---

We got him a package of accessories for his PSP- a car charger, a skin, headphones, other stuff. He seemed amused. We keept the receipt in case he didn’t like it, but he took out the skin and put it on right away. ---

Yeah, that’s a good gift for someone his age. Nice job. Maybe I’ll spring for that stuff when my sister hits 14 in August.
