Quick: what's the first evenly unisex name that pops to mind?

Dominique

Pat or Chris

Interesting. Shannon is my real name, and I’d guess that better than 80% of other Shannons I’ve ever met have also been female. Since you mentioned Jo/e too, I wonder if it’s due to regional trends, because where I live there aren’t a lot of women or girls named Jo here, either.

Yeah, but the girl’s version is spelled “SandeE” (with a little heart at the end).

I saw a sign in the window the other day that read “Happy Birthday Dashiell”. Hammett is the only Dashiell I ever heard of, but since this “i” was dotted with a heart I wondered if it were perhaps a she-Dash.

Other than that, the first three names I thought of were Madison (possibly not unisex at all, but it’s what I thought of first, so for completeness’s sake), then Tyler, and then Terry/Terri/Terrie.

Over the past few years in television, how many series feature a plucky female character named Alex? Often a fighter, even the hero’s sidekick. The protagonist in Quantico.

The Big Bang Theory
Mistresses
Nikita
Quantico
Sleepy Hollow
Supergirl
Supernatural/Wayward Sisters
Witches of East End

These are just the ones I’ve seen.

Lee.

“Corky” popped into my head as one not likely to come to most people’s minds.

I’ve known/known of people of both genders with that ~name.

Honestly, Morgan was my first thought. It’s one of the few where I know equal numbers of both.

Kim probably works, too: a guy if not short for anything, but a girl if short for Kimberly.

I’m unsure about “Sam.” I think it’s an old/young divide.

It was, until about five years ago, but “Samuel” has been a really popular name for boys recently, and “Samantha” was really popular for girls from about 2005-2010, with lots of Samanthas still popping up.

Does anyone still meet young men or boys named Terry? It’s short for Terrence, which isn’t very popular. Is there another name that Terry is short for? For girls, on the other hand, Terrie/Teri/Terri/Terry is short for Theresa, which is a name that still gets used a lot, albeit, more and more families are choosing the old-fashioned nickname “Tess” instead of “Terrie” for Theresa. Is Terrie short for anything else for a girl?
