Back in the 1980s, I was answering a phone survey (I was quite bored, so I bit) about TV viewing and radio listening habits. I was asked what radio station I listened to most often. I answered with a station that I liked a lot. The follow up question went like: Surveyer: If, for whatever reason, that station were to go off the air, what would you most likely turn to. Me (without hesitation): Drugs. Surveyer: \ After a few seconds, I had to say that that was a joke. Obviously not appreciated. ---

Reminds me of Miss Manners’ suggested response when you are slow to advance when a light turns green and the guy behind you honks at you to go: Put it in park, walk back to his car and say, “excuse me, did you summon me?” Of course, that was decades ago. Not something I would try today. mmm ---

My bf rode his bike to my office to get me for lunch. As we were leaving we saw a squirrel perched on the seat of his bicycle outside. It stayed on the seat even as we approached the bike. BF wondered why it chose his bike to sit on. I said ‘well, there were a couple of warm nuts there a little while ago’. ---

Not mine, but a former co-worker told this to me. I don’t know if it’s 100% true, but it makes a good anecdote. He used to work for a local newspaper that was putting together an article on an ongoing Native American festival. They had pictures of Native Americans crafting, weaving, and grinding corn. They had one picture of a half dozen or so joyful tribespeople standing side by side and waving their homemade blankets in the air. The news people were trying to think of a suitable headline caption for the picture. One fellow, who didn’t talk much, made a suggestion that stunned the entire office to silence. He then went back to his office and retreated into darkness. His suggestion: How about “Trail of Cheers?” ---

For over thirty years, I have referred to the cantina band in **Star Wars: A New Hope** as _The Mos Eisley Brothers._ Even the crickets were silent. :mad: ---

I usually don’t appreciate why somebody insists on publicly announcing they’re the exception to the rule, but maybe in 20 or 30 years it’ll make sense. ---

I don’t know if this one was appreciated at the time or not – I wasn’t there. But I heard about it afterwards, and it deserves to be remembered. My friend (and one-tome SDMB Board member) **KevinLeeC** was dressed as a vampire for Halloween – formal suit, cape, slicked-down hair, fangs – the whole deal.
