I remember watching a lottery drawing with my mother, once. She asked if I noticed how the numbers always seemed to be clustered together (3 numbers in the 20s, none in the 30s, that sort of thing). We had just seen the numbers, on ping-pong balls, drawn out of a machine that bounced them around. It was as random as can be. I think it was just her desire to find patterns, and our tendency to divide things into convenient groups (like 20s and 30s) that made her see clusters in randomness.

Itβs funny you bring the lottery up because I was thinking about that too. People who like to play the lotto and scratch offs are forever obsessively searching for patterns and commonalities π
I play the crossword scratch offs sometimes. Theyβre fun and occasionally I actually win something!
They still use the old ping pong balls in the wind tunnel thingie for the lottery numbers because it IS totally random. Computer generated random numbers are ultimately just following some randomization program and so not _truly_ random.

Perhaps. They did have a word generator tool though (like an anagram solver)β¦I had seen it in the settings a while back - it was added as a new feature, but I never used it. I just noticed itβs gone nowβ¦maybe they didnβt want to give the players that much help, and they could be using it themselves now, but who knows.

It just seems to make sense, at least to my analytical brain. And youβre rightβ¦knowing the words repeat, and or the letters repeat within a game, does sometimes make it easier, yet I still resist. π

Three tries to get the #3 word π¦ΈββοΈ - I only saw Deuce for that one, but I was glad the #1 word (Bench) gave me the N for Fence or Pence, and Snake too, though that was the only word that one could be after Deuce ruled out 3 other words, so it wasnβt a total waste.
