I wrote out my old start words, and then checked a letter-frequency list to find which letter was lowest on the list. I dropped the P, added an L, and then found three words which contained those fifteen letters.
That isn’t necessarily the optimum strategy, though. Letters come up with different frequency at different postions. I like having Y as the last letter, for example.
I wonder if anybody has analyzed five-letter words to chart frequency and position.
Why yes they have! I just googled it and up came a Reddit post. Scroll down for the updated list a few posts below the first chart…they omitted proper nouns. Oh wait, someone pointed out that the updated list is omitting a bunch of words…they posted another updated list, so just look through that thread and make what you will of it to get a good idea.
That’s interesting. If I wasn’t so lazy about the game at this point I might make use of it. As it is, I seldom even make lists of options anymore and usually just wing it.
Awesome double six yesterday!

CHUTE - 3
TAROT - 4
WRING - 5
BLORE
OMBRE - 7
I don’t even know what blore is but apparently it’s valid. More French with the ombre
Not one of my better games. I made another mistake…I played Drone for the #3 word when it already showed the O didn’t go there. I remember a while back we had Aorta and I guessed Tarot, so this time I went with Aorta, but it was Tarot.
Starting over again. What kind of word is CORER, anyway? I suppose I could have headed that off with a good sleuth word in guess 7. VERSE would have identified a V and R in third position.
This one was a bit of a challenge with those two trap words. I first thought I’d go with Knave for a sleuth word to check Alike, Aline, Alive, but with that CO_ER trap, I saw a better sleuth word to go with…NERVY would check Corer, Coyer, and Cover at least too. I got super lucky with that one!
@chiliwillybing Way to go with those Wizardry skills in nailing Alive! And Dumpy was good to check some of those CO_ER trap words too.
@Robot_Arm Bummer on having to start over! I agree with Corer, and like Chili said, it’s right up there along with Parer.
Nice Seq-6 @chiliwillybing! I lost the coin toss unfortunately - lol. Yeah, not a fan of Thrum…I always feel like I’m trying to say Strum with a bunch of novacaine in my mouth.
This one was a bit of a nail biter . I decided to wing it between Scald, Scalp, and Scaly, and glad it wasn’t Scald. Then I was trying to think of a sleuth word for the _I_ER trap, but I saw that Diver would check 8 of the 10 words, so up it went…and it eliminated all of those 8 words! And I guessed a 50/50 correctly (Finer vs. Miner), so I’m good with my 8 today.
